Developing the ‘perfect’ transistor

The single-atom transistor is no longer a purely theoretical concept.

UNSW researchers turned the concept into reality by creating a transistor with a single phosphorus atom on a silicon surface.

The new technology is a step toward quantum computing and could be used to greatly increasing computational efficiency.
