Researchers have published a paper on a new approach to treating pain caused by inflammatory conditions, such as rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis.
The latest research supports their theory that blocking the function the molecule granulocyte macrophage colony-stimulation factor (GM-CSF), which operates as a messenger between cells acting at a site of inflammation, is highly effective for suppressing pain.
The rising incidence of inflammatory conditions in an ageing population highlights the need for new therapies to treat pain symptoms.
