Parental intervention can deter college drinking

A US study of college freshman has shown that parental and peer intervention is more effective for different groups when countering alcohol abuse.

The study found that non drinkers the summer before starting college were most receptive to parental intervention, and that weekend non-bingers were most receptive to peer based intervention.

The study also showed that there was no added benefit from intervention from both parents and peers.
