AAP

Australian Associated Press—Australia’s national news wire agency—was established so the country’s metropolitan newspapers could share the high cost of bringing international news into the country.

That was in 1935.

Now, around the clock, every day, AAP dispatches hundreds of thousands of words in real time to newspaper, radio, television and web newsrooms.

AAP is a vibrant multimedia business moving its domestic and international news, sport, finance and features stories, data, images, video, audio and art to all media in the country and wherever content can be shown.

Its support enterprises include press release distribution, media monitoring, business intelligence and analysis, newspaper page production and sub-editorial services.

AAP is one of just a handful of news wire agencies worldwide that is completely commercially run.

Nimble. Dynamic. Ubiquitous. Indispensable.

News remains the beating heart of the agency and in more than seven decades AAP reporters have had a front row seat to events that have not only shaped Australia but have transformed the world.

It’s therefore fitting that Australian Associated Press joins The Conversation, its academics and researchers in setting the agenda and ventilating the issues affecting all Australians.
