Senior lecturer, University of Adelaide

I'm a neuroscientist with expertise in learning, memory and behavioural control. I’m passionate about uncovering how our diets influence brain function and mental wellbeing.

I’m interested in how brain changes caused by diet and obesity can predispose individuals to the development of dementia, depression, anxiety, and eating disorders.

Finding out how the brain is changed following exposure to diet or lifestyle modifications can tell us about how to develop better therapies for people experiencing cognitive decline.

In an academic setting, I have published 44 peer reviewed manuscripts in leading neuroscience, nutrition and health journals and I have received over $1.9 Million (AUD) in research funding.

Outside of academia, I am a passionate science communicator exemplified by my multiple awards in science communication (including a Young Tall Poppy Award, NSW 2015) and invited TEDxSydney 2016 talk 'This is your brain on sugar' (https://tedxsydney.com/talk/this-is-your-brain-on-sugar-amy-reichelt/).
