Tom Rainey has 10 years of research and industrial experience in sugar and pulp and paper manufacture. Tom completed his PhD in 2009 at QUT where he also works as a Research Fellow.

Tom has considerable experience in the manufacture of highly value–added products from sugarcane residue, bagasse, particularly pulp and paper products. His research in this area has resulted in a Federal Government Young Scientist Award and a Queensland Premier´s Office Smart State Award. Dr. Rainey has experience with a wide range of biomass fractionation and pre–treatment technologies as a precursor to value–added lignin products and ethanol as well as paper pulp.
