Honorary Senior Fellow, Melbourne School of Psychological Sciences, The University of Melbourne

I joined academia in 2008, after completing a PhD on leadership and change in Australian universities at RMIT University. In 2005-2006 I worked in the Office of the Vice-Chancellor at the University of Melbourne on its Growing Esteem strategy.

Over 2008-2017 I worked at the University of Melbourne as a teacher, researcher, internal consultant, author, journal editor, and media commentator on tertiary education leadership, policy, and strategy, with the (then) L H Martin Institute and the Melbourne Centre for the Study of Higher Education

Since 2017 I've been an Honorary Senior Fellow at the University of Melbourne.

Over 2017-2018 I worked at Monash University as Senior Higher Education Adviser in the Office of the Vice-Chancellor. Over 2019-2022 my work has included advisory work and expert commentary on academic freedom and free speech policies, as universities responded to the French Review.

Since the 2020 pandemic I've been writing a blog on higher education in Australia. You can visit Big Little Thought Crimes in Melbourne at https://geoffsharrockinmelbourne.net/

I am a member of Heterodox Academy. HxA funded my project on academic freedom, constructive debate and viewpoint diversity in Australian universities from March 2022.
