Holly Northam

Assistant Professor of Critical Care Nursing at University of Canberra

Summary

Holly is a Registered Nurse and Midwife who is feels very privileged to have spent over 30 years clinically engaged in critical care nursing areas. Her experience includes adult, paediatric and neonatal intensive care. Holly convenes and teaches into the Postgraduate Critical Care nursing courses at the University of Canberra and teaches in the undergraduate Ethic and Law unit.

She has specialized in the area of organ and tissue donation while working for ACT health in the nursing position of ACT Organ and Tissue Donor Coordinator where she had experience in caring and advocating for patients and their families. Holly represented the ACT on a number on national committees reviewing organ and tissue donation and was a member of the National Advisory Committee for the National Organ Donation Collaborative.

Holly is a PhD scholar at the University of Canberra where she is researching the factors that influence families who decline organ donation. Holly is currently seeking people who wish to participate in organ donation research, who have been asked to make an organ donation decision for a deceased relative in the last three years.

She is passionate about ensuring that nurses are supported by excellence in education, to ensure they are best able to meet the needs of patients, their families and our community.
