Nick Pendergrast

PhD Candidate in Sociology at Curtin University

Summary

I am currently studying my PhD in Sociology at Curtin University. I began my thesis in 2009 and it is due for completion in 2012. This research focuses on the animal advocacy movement, primarily in Australia and the United States, and explores the range of ideologies, activism, organisations, and key actors that make up this movement.

I also teach Sociology and Anthropology at Curtin University. I have taught a number of units, including the second year Sociology/Anthropology units Social Inequality: Possibilities for Change and Private Lives, Public Issues. I have given lectures on topics such as human/non-human relations and the animal advocacy movement, the Occupy movement, gender and veiling, international trade and globalisation, media and politics, and music and social change.
