Stuart Rees is Professor Emeritus of the University of Sydney and Chair of the Sydney Peace Foundation.

Stuart Rees was former Professor of Social Work & Social Policy at the University of Sydney, Director of Sydney University’s Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies and Director of the Sydney Peace Foundation.

Before entering academia Stuart Rees worked in community development and social justice projects in London, for the Attorney General in British Columbia, in the War on Poverty Programmes in Colorado USA and with Save the Children in India and Sri Lanka.

He is the author of eleven books on issues concerning health care, social work and peace negotiations. His publications include two anthologies of poetry. His most recent books were (2003) Passion for Peace (UNSW Press) and (2004) Tell Me the Truth About War (Ginninderra Press).

In 2002 he was given an honorary doctorate by Soka University, Tokyo Japan for ‘significant contributions to world peace’ and in 2005 he was awarded the Order of Australia for ‘service to international relations’.
