The El Niño effect: how the weather makes wars

The arrival of El Niño every three to seven years has been linked to periodic increases in warfare.

The study suggests that El Niño, which increases temperature but lowers rainfall, may account for 21% of all civil conflicts in the past fifty years and double the risk of civil war across 90 topical countries.
