The Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPPA) could interfere with Australia’s anti-smoking and medicine prices legislation, according to an article published in the Medical Journal of Australia.
The authors warned that TPPA could be used to stop the plain cigarette packaging legislation, and challenge decisions to Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme through appeals to extend patents, among others.
TPPA is a free trade agreement between Australia, Brunei, Chile, Malaysia, Peru, Singapore, New Zealand, the United States, and Vietnam.
