Antibiotic could alleviate fragile X symptoms

Researchers have trialled the antibiotic minocycline as a therapy for fragile X syndrome, a genetic condition causing cognitive and behavioural impairment and sometimes causing autism.

The study trialled the drug with 55 children aged three and a half to 16 years.

Parents reported an improvement in their child’s condition while they were taking the medication.
