Queensland maternity care providers discriminate against women on the basis of their weight, researchers have found.
A study in two parts measured 627 mothers’ perceptions of the interpersonal quality of their care and attitudes among 248 maternal health care providers towards women of different sizes.
It found that women with higher BMIs reported fewer positive and more negative experiences. Providers held more negative attitudes towards overweight women, including seeing these women as a waste of their time.
