Women heed infant feeding guidelines

Australian infant feeding guidelines seem to be having an effect, new research suggests.

Researchers surveyed women in Queensland who had recently given birth and found that they were introducing solids later, following a change in the National Health and Medical Research Council guidelines.

Introducing solids before six months increases the risk of infection, allergy and obesity.

Factors affecting the early introduction of solids include the age of the mother, her level of education and socio-economic status.
