Alex Veen is an employment relations scholar who specialises in new and emerging forms of employment and work. His research interrogates how technology and regulation shape the way in which organisations engage and manage workforces. He has produced cutting-edge research on work practices within the app-based services segment of the digitally enabled ‘gig’ economy. His ARC DECRA research systematically examines the nature and operation of algorithmic management in the ‘gig’ economy, advancing understanding about the impact of de-humanised management for workers and other stakeholders. He also conducts more traditional employment relations research, focussing on management strategy around industrial agreement making.
