Anaesthetist and researcher, University of Adelaide

Allan Cyna is a Senior Consultant Anaesthetist at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital and Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Adelaide. He has developed a special interest in communication and hypnosis as an adjunct to enhance anaesthesia care - particularly in the management of pain, needle phobia and anxiety.

He is a member of the Australian Society of Hypnosis and the Cochrane Collaboration and has recently completed a PhD in Medicine and a Cochrane review focusing on the clinical effects of hypnosis in childbirth. He is chief editor of the Handbook of Communication in Anaesthesia and Critical Care published in 2010 by Oxford University Press.
