My current project seeks to investigate narratives of national and transnational identities in the context of the transatlantic jazz culture. Jazz’ hybrid origins establish a starting point from which it continues to migrate across national, ethnic, and cultural borders in a continued creolization.

I wish to investigate how jazz and local music cultures interact and intermingle with a focus on the European scene. The study will be based on case studies from the US and four European countries: Denmark, Spain, France and the UK (including Scotland and Ireland), emphasising how the transatlantic and transnational travels of both the music and its performers constitute articulations of internationalism and cosmopolitanism.
