April holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from the Graduate Center at the City University of New York. She is Lecturer in Sport Studies at the University of Stirling.

Her main research interest is the use of image and performance enhancing drugs (IPEDs)--legal and non--within sports and fitness, with particular focus on harm reduction and gender. She is co-author of Performance Cultures and Doped Bodies (2021) and Doping: A Sporting History (forthcoming spring 2022).
