Professor Catherine Renshaw (PhD Syd; LLM Syd; LLB UNSW; BA Hons. Syd) is based in the School of Law at the University of Western Sydney. Catherine’s research focuses on human rights and democracy in the Asia Pacific region. She has a particular focus on Southeast Asia and has done extensive fieldwork in Myanmar and Thailand. Catherine acts as consultant to several NGOs in the Asia Pacific region and is admitted to practice as a lawyer in the Supreme Court of New South Wales and the High Court of Australia. Catherine is the author of a number of books and numerous journal articles and book chapters. Her most recent books are: “Human Rights and Participatory Politics in Southeast Asia" published by University of Pennsylvania Press in 2019 and "Nonsense on Stilts? Rescuing Human Rights in Australia" published by Conor Court in 2020. She is a Director of the Network for Law and Human Rights, which is based in the Law School of Western Sydney University.
