I have been working for some years on the social and cultural history of the pound sterling, on which I have published a number of articles and delivered numerous conference papers. I am currently completing a book on the relationship between currency, power and identity in the British Isles since 1604. My previous research was focussed on the British non-communist left in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. I am currently employed as Senior Lecturer in history in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at UNSW Canberra, where I am also Associate Dean (Education).
