David Choquenot was born in Penrith, NSW, but moved to Melbourne at an early age. He spent a good portion of his youth chasing frogs, lizards and snakes before Harry Butler convinced him that it was possible to do that for a living. He never became Harry Butler, but he has made a living out of chasing wild animals and helping others with similar (and dissimilar) biological interests in Canada, New Zealand, and many parts of Australia. He has most recently be enticed into the world of academia, taking the role of Director at the Institute for Applied Ecology, University of Canberra.
