Patrick is an Assistant Teaching Professor in the Department of Department of History, Sociology, Geography, and Legal Studies at the University of Tampa. He specializes in early American women, the American Revolution, and loyalist exile in Nova Scotia. His current book project highlights the critical public and private roles British-sympathizing wives and daughters played in the late eighteenth-century Nova Scotia. In particular, he examines how women used shared grief to form the basis for a new community among a diverse group of refugees. He also examines how mothers and daughters led many families out of exile and back to their American homes after peace was reached between the United States and Great Britain in 1783.
Patrick holds a B.A. from Providence College, an M.A. from McGill University, and a Ph.D. from the University of South Carolina.
