Associate Professor, University of Sydney

James is an Associate Professor in Financial Text Mining in the School of Information Technologies at the University of Sydney. He also holds an ARC Australian Research Fellowship, working on "Parsing the web: exploiting redundancy to understand language". James is a Research Leader for Language Technology at the Capital Markets CRC.

James is Director of the National Computer Science School, and the NCSS Challenge - two high school outreach programs that encourage students to engage with IT. In 2010, he was chosen as one of Sydney Magazine’s “Top 100” most influential people for his work in outreach and educational programs.
