Adjunct Associate Professor, University of Sydney

John is a Director of ConNetica after a career that has seen him hold several executive positions including the inaugural Chair of the Australian Government’s National Advisory Council on Mental Health, CEO of the Mental Health Council of Australia and CEO of the Australian Sports Drug Agency. He participated in the 2009 Indigenous Suicide Blank Page Conference in the Kimberleys and in 2008 attended the 2020 Summit. John was awarded the QUT Alumni Award for Innovation and is an Adjunct Professor, University of the Sunshine Coast and Adjunct Associate Professor Sydney University.

John has authored or co-authored dozens of reports and submissions to public inquiries on mental health and suicide in the past six years. He played a key role in advocacy efforts to secure the $5billion COAG Mental Health Plan in 2006. His most recent reports include a Sector Development Strategy for the Victorian community mental health sector and a seminal report on suicide, Breaking the Silence.

John’s professional expertise lies in the areas of social policy, health promotion, governance, change management, workplace mental health and well being programs.
