Jonathan Radcliffe

Dr Jonathan Radcliffe is a Reader in Energy Systems and Innovation, and leads the Resilient Cities theme for the university’s Institute for Global Innovation. His research focuses on policy and techno-economic analysis of energy systems, with particular emphasis on the integration of new technologies in the context of a wider socio-technical transition. Whilst a physicist by training, he has spent much of his career in government, involved in the use of evidence in policy-making. He is now investigator on several major research projects, including PI of the £5m EPSRC-funded project, 'MANIFEST, co-I on the £8m EnergyREV consortium, and co-I on the £7.5m H2020 Innovation Action ‘CryoHub’ that is investigating novel cooling technologies for refrigerated warehouses. He is a co-I for the Innovate-UK-funded ‘Repowering the Black Country’ phase 2 cluster plan, and the Back Country academic lead for the proposed Industrial Decarbonisation Research and Innovation Centre. Radcliffe is a member of the Scientific Advisory Committee for UKRI's Energy Programme, and was Specialist Advisor to the House of Commons Science and Technology Select Committee for the 2019 inquiry on Clean Growth Technologies.
