Lars' overall goal is to develop a theory of spatial information for building pervasive computing systems that anticipate, adapt and respond to the needs of users, and provide services based on the user's location and context. Specifically, his research resulted in efficient algorithms for moving objects, methods for safeguarding location privacy, information dissemination algorithms in sensor networks, spatial algorithms in pervasive computing environments, and robust algorithms that cope with imperfection, especially in the context of mobile computing. A unique aspect of his research is its high degree of integration, which combines methods from data management, distributed computing, and geometry.
