Luke Thorburn is a PhD student in the UKRI Centre for Doctoral Training in Safe and Trusted AI at King’s College London. His core research interests lie at the intersection: algorithms ∩ conflict. In particular, his research focuses on how recommender systems can be designed to mitigate risks of human conflict and political polarization.
Luke co-authors the Understanding Recommenders project for the Center for Human-Compatible AI at the University of California, Berkeley, is a member of the GETTING-Plurality Research Network housed within the Allen Lab for Democracy Renovation at Harvard University, and is a Research Affiliate of the Machine Intelligence and Normative Theory Lab at the Australian National University.
