Dr Michális S. Michael, BA, MA (Syd), PhD (LaT), is Deputy Director and Research Fellow at the Centre for Dialogue, La Trobe University, an Honorary Research Fellow School of Social Sciences, Fellow, Contemporary European Research Centre, University of Melbourne, serves on LTU’s Middle East Advisory Council, and was Acting Director of LTU’s National Centre for Hellenic Studies & Research. He has taught, published and researched on international relations, conflict resolution, Australian foreign policy, interfaith/intercultural dialogue and the Cyprus coflict. Dr Michael is involved in various projects such as ‘Europe and Asia: Between Islam and the United States’ (formerly Allies of the United States and the Middle East: European/Asia-Pacific Comparisons), ‘Australia’s handling of tensions between Islam and the West since September 11: developing leadership training programmes for conflict prevention and conflict resolution’, ‘International Conflict, Religion and Culture: Implications for Southeast Asia and Australia’ as well as coordinates the ‘Diaspora Dialogue Programme’, the ‘Developing an Interfaith/Intercultural Network for Melbourne’s Northern Region’ project and is facilitating the ‘Cypriot Academic Dialogue’. Dr Michael’s publications include: Cyprus in the Modern World (Vanias Press, 2005), Asia-Pacific Geopolitics: Hegemony versus Human Security, (co-editor, Edward Elgar, 2007), Europe between Islam and the United States (co-editor, special edition of the Global Change, Peace & Security, 2008), Civilizational Dialogue and World Order: The Other Politics of Cultures, Religions and Civilizations in International Relations (Palgrave Macmillan 2009); and Negotiating History: Resolving the Cyprus Conflict (Palgrave Macmillan, 2009).
