Dr Nancy Lombard is a Reader in Sociology and Social Policy at Glasgow Caledonian University. Her research interests include men’s violence against women, particularly domestic abuse; violence prevention; methods of working with children and young people, gender; feminism and knowledge exchange activities. Her research on violence provides an original and important contribution to the understandings of a global issue. Her expertise and excellence in violence against women research is recognised at international level with invitations to speak nationally and internationally including keynotes at the United Nations, New York and the 14th Annual UNESCO conference on eliminating violence against women and girls. Dr Lombard’s research has had a direct influence on Scottish Government Violence Against Women policies which have highlighted primary prevention as a key strategic target. Her expertise and research excellence have been further demonstrated when she was asked to sit on the Board for the Scottish Government’s new strategy ‘Equally Safe’. Dr Lombard is also a member of the Global Young Academy and an Editorial Board Member of the internationally recgonised journal Violence Against Women http://vaw.sagepub.com/.
Dr Lombard is a Core Expert with the European Network of Experts on Gender Equality (European Commission) http://www.enege.eu/ an Associate Director of the Centre for Research in Families and Relationships, www.crfr.co.uk and a founding member and coordinator of the Gender Based Violence Research Network (GBVRN). Dr Lombard is passionate about gender equalityand in 2014, was successful in obtaining a Beltane Honorary Fellowship. She used this to develop a city wide gender equality training programme for Headteachers and educational practitioners working in Glasgow primary schools.
