Reader in Law, Lancaster University

My research largely centres around two areas - biotechnology and reproduction. I am particularly interested in issues raised at the intersection of health care law and ethics and family law - especially related to children.

I've published on legal and ethical aspects of clinical research, the legal regulation of xenotransplantation, issues surrounding consenting to risk, sex selection, how the law treats single infertile people, decision making processes and practices with regard to the 'vulnerable', obtaining consent when the patient and her parents are under 18, the role of conscience-based exemptions in health care practice, and how it is decided that a health care practice or procedure is legitimate.

I am a non-practising barrister and have worked at Lancaster University since 2000.
