The "male experience" of eating disorders is much more than just sex differences. My research focuses on i) males with anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa, ii) muscle dysmorphia, steroid use and supplement use, iii) the effects of stigma on men with eating disorders and on steroid users, iv) the influence of gender roles in the development and maintenance of eating disorders and body dissatisfaction, v) treatment for men with eating disorders and muscle dysmorphia, and vi) impaired cognitive and emotional functioning in men with these conditions. The broad aim of this research is to change the current eating disorder and body dissatisfaction framework to better accommodate men and to improve sufferers' quality of life.
