Jessica Smartt Gullion, PhD, is Assistant Professor of Sociology at Texas Woman’s University, where she teaches qualitative research methods and medical sociology. She has authored more than 20 peer-reviewed articles, in journals such as Qualitative Inquiry, the International Review of Qualitative Research, and the Journal of Applied Social Science. Her arts-based research book, October Birds: A Novel About Pandemic Influenza, Infection Control, and First Responders, was nominated for the International Congress of Qualitative Inquiry 2015 Qualitative Book Award. Her latest non-fiction book, Fracking the Neighborhood, an ethnography on natural gas development, is forthcoming from MIT Press. Dr Gullion is also a Public Voices Fellow with The OpEd Project.
