We are facing an environmental crisis. The rise of modern industrial technologies is contributing to increased social and environmental risks with rising inequalities between the rich and the poor and a surge in ecological destruction. With science becoming increasingly unsustainable, there is a need for positive social change, instead of science being used to generate profits that destroy the environment and benefit a few. If this destructive path continues our children and future generations will be left with an unsustainable planet. Llewellyn is an environmental sociologist. He has an MSc Civil Engineering (Water Quality and Environmental Management) from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa and a Ph.D. Geography from Kings College London. Llewellyn has worked on environmental issues related to industrial, medical and municipal waste, landfills, mining, air pollution, incineration, cleaner production techniques and obsolete pesticides to name a few in South Africa and internationally.
