Dr. Van Lieshout is psychiatrist clinician-scientist, the Canada Research Chair in Perinatal Mental Health, and the Albert Einstein/Irving Zucker Chair in Neuroscience at McMaster University.
The aim of his research is to attempt to interrupt the intergenerational transmission of psychopathology from parent to child. To date, this work has focused on improving access to evidence-based psychotherapies for persons struggling with mental health problems during pregnancy and the postpartum period, and developing and testing treatments aimed at optimizing the mental health of parents, as well as the neurodevelopment of their offspring.
He has received over $35 million in research funding and has published 200 peer-reviewed articles. His research is regularly covered by media outlets in Canada and around the world.
