Dr Bandaranaike's current research interests include demographic, social and environmental issues in Australia. She specialises in demographic analysis and profiling with a focus on youth populations and regional communities. Current research includes geographic profiling of offenders and youth delinquency in regional areas, comparative study of tourism and crime in UK and Australia and the survival of outback towns in North and Central Queensland. She has also done extensive research on the socio-economics of fishing communities in developing countries and seafood consumption and marketing research in Queensland , New South Wales and the Northern Territory.
