Tony is a senior lecturer in Tourism Management and was Course Director of the Bachelor of Arts in Tourism Management from its inception in 1989 until 1997. He is responsible for coordinating undergraduate major industry based projects, and designed the work experience program for Tourism Management students. He has worked in urban planning at both federal and local government levels. Prior to joining UTS in 1989 he was Program Director of the Land Economy degree at Hawkesbury College (now part of UWS), where his teaching was primarily in the fields of planning, land economics and property development. Tony is a past NSW Network Coordinator for the Sustainable Tourism Cooperative Research Centre (STCRC) and has worked on a number of research projects relating to urban and nature-based tourism, environmental accreditation of tourism operators and tourism planning for the STCRC. He has published extensively on subjects such as sustainable tourism, urban tourism precincts and tourism in national parks. Much of this research has focused on understanding the nature of tourist experiences in a variety of contexts. He has also been involved in consultancy projects dealing with resort/hotel feasibilities, tourism policy, educational requirements for festivals and events, environmental and social impacts of tourism, and tourism education and graduate career development.
